Positive Promotion Works!

Peñasco Recreation SA de CV began its Networking and Interactive Promotional Program with a successful exhibition at the Las Vegas Trade Show in September, 2009. We met hundreds of travel agents and other travel professionals from around the world, and we were able to literally introduce them to Puerto Peñasco!

During the show, we also decided to become an Allied member of ASTA. This allows us access to hundreds and hundreds of travel agents as a preferred vendor.

We are continuing to follow up with many of these travel representatives and several are actively working with us to promote Puerto Peñasco as a travel destination for their clients.

Our next stop was the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show in January of 2010. As always, thousands of RVers attended the nine day event, notwithstanding the cold, the rain and a frightening microburst which shut down the show for one entire day.

We talked to hundreds of travelers, not just “under the big tent”, but Russ got out there and interviewed snowbirds camping in the desert surrounding Quartzsite, visited many RV parks and spoke with owners and managers of the parks. Everywhere he went he left literature about Puerto Peñasco!

Kenny King who puts on the Quartzsite Show welcomed us back after a decade long absence! We had previously attended the show promoting our RV Caravan business for many years. And the show is still as crazy as always! On the first day, hundreds of people are lined up at each entrance prior to the nine o’clock opening of the Big Event! And they come pouring in through the doors in an overwhelming crowd on that first! Many return each day of the show and others meander through at least two or three times during the week.

We spoke to travelers who were on each extreme of the heated debate of Travel in Mexico! Of course, there are those who will never come across the border to experience anything in Mexico. On the other hand, there were hundreds of people who told us “We will be there!” “We are traveling with friends and we go to Peñasco every year!”

But two groups of travelers seemed to be our main focus.

There were those who would say “I have always wanted to go, but…”

Or, “Our friends go every year, but we have never joined them…”

Or, “We used to go every year, but is it safe now?”

And Russ and I would show them our photo books, explain that we live in a typical Puerto Peñasco neighborhood, explaining that as we sat there talking, our teenage son was in Mexico living his life and cruising around town. While reminding people that common sense is always in style and that dangers exist everywhere on our planet, we presented our positive view of living and traveling in Mexico and specifically in Sonora. Many, many people thanked us for the reassurance.

Additionally, we handed out thousands of pieces of literature for many local businesses. We gave out lots of information regarding RV parks, hotels, things to do, places to see, things not to miss and road conditions, etc.

Several couples took us up on our personally escorted trips from San Luis to Penasco. And, since the show we met up with many more snowbird travelers who allowed us to show them around town on our guided private tours. We love showing newcomers what is going on in town so that they can experience more of Puerto Peñasco.

We look forward with anticipation at the rest of 2010 as we continue to promote our beach town of Puerto Peñasco!

As tourists ourselves we found ourselves here over 25 years ago for our first trip. Now as Americans living and working in Mexico full time since 2007, we have a perspective of life that we feel will resonate well with would be travelers to our area. We are experienced Trade Show Exhibitioners and think that one–on-one contact is an essential part of any marketing strategy, or campaign. We are also experienced sales people with a long history of sales success.

We feel that all of the businesses in Penasco should benefit from positive promotion of the area. From the landlord of a condo looking for renters, to the young people selling curios on the beach, or the malecon, they all deserve the benefits of positive promotions.

We feel that the area encompassed in the greater Puerto Peñasco includes North of Laguna Shores to just past Estero San Jorge - and everything in between. We are friends or acquaintances with many shop owners, restaurant owners, cantina owners, and we all agree we need to do something to promote – actively promote - our area of the world.

Our goal is to invite first time travelers from different facets of life. If we meet our goal, we will have more people coming to Puerto Penasco! And they will then tell their friends what a fun, safe and relaxing time they spent in our town by the sea.

Our future goals include other avenues that will attract new visitors to Puerto Peñasco and Mexico.
